Renewal of Baptismal Promises
The faithful renew their Baptismal Vows every year during the Easter Vigil Mass. It is a powerful experience and an important one. Many of us were baptized as infants with sponsors who answered for us. Thanks to the grace of that baptism, we were blessed to (hopefully) grow in our knowledge and love of our Faith. However, it is important that we personally recite the Vows of Baptism at least once a year. This is part of the Easter Vigil liturgy, but can also be done privately or as a family.
As you reflect on your Baptism, pray the Renewal of Baptismal Promises with your family. A parent can lead this pray. Family members may bless themselves with holy water after renewing their baptismal promises.
V. Do you reject Satan?
R. I do renounce him.
V. And all his works?
R. I do renounce them.
V. And all his empty promises?
R. I do renounce them.
V. Do you believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth?
R. I do believe.
V. Do you believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary was crucified, died, and was buried, rose from the dead, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father?
R. I do believe.
V. Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting?
R. I do believe.
V. God, the all-powerful Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has given us a new birth by water and the Holy Spirit, and forgiven all our sins. May he also keep us faithful to our Lord Jesus Christ for ever and ever.
R. Amen.
