Description
This simple yet bold icon depicts Saint Benedict of Nursia, the patron of Europe, students, and Benedictine monasticism. He established the greatest and most famous of all monasteries at Monte Cassino, which became the home of the Benedictine Order. When he died, there were 14 Benedictine communities, and by the 14th century there were more than 30,000. There, he established his famous Rule, which changed and renewed the monastic life of Europe.
For centuries icons have been traditionally been called "Windows into Heaven," because through them we receive a vision of the spiritual world. The stylized character of the icon shows man and nature restored to their original beauty as reflections of the celestial glory.
This icon is striking in its deep, rich colors over a gold leaf background. Made with a non-glare satin lamination with a durable, washable surface and UV protective coating.
Icon measures 8"W x 10"H x .5"D.
